#WMCFW Spring/Summer 2014 Style Selects: Special Fashion Flashback Edition

With World MasterCard Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 just around the corner, we thought it the perfect time to take a look back and reflect on some of our favourite style selects from the Spring/Summer 2014 tent.

Celebrities, members of the media, and fashion enthusiasts show off their week’s best in this grouping of looks that embraces Givenchy-inspired streetwear, the mixing of varied animal prints and leathers, normcore couture, and clean, sophisticated styles with statement cuts and soft textures.

Seasonal Countryside Couture: The Jigsaw Autumn/Winter 2013 Lookbook Combines Traditional Styles with Modern Cuts

Sweeping countryside vistas, freshly chopped firewood, and warm, cozy, knit sweaters all help set the scene for the current, Jigsaw Autumn/Winter 2013 lookbook. The fast-fashion retailer’s men’s edit celebrates the best in British style by staying true to the brand’s roots with a seasonal selection of traditional tartans, plaids, and houndstooth designs.

Updated, modern tailoring and slimmer silhouettes keep Jigsaw’s menswear range contemporary and fresh, while its fabric selections, masculine cuts, and classic styles are all hallmarks of the label’s rich appreciation for the history and heritage of British fashion.

Starring actor and ‘Emmerdale’ veteran Noah Huntley as the ruggedly handsome face of the campaign, the Jigsaw Autumn/Winter 2013 lookbook is a sartorial story of buffalo-checked jackets, suited separates, patterned pullovers, and bold pops of colour.

THE BRUNETTES @ World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014

Through October 21 to October 26, 2013, THE BRUNETTES spent their days at the World MasterCard Fashion Week tent in David Pecaut Square, taking in six days of Spring/Summer 2014 shows and awe-inspiring, Canadian couture from some of the country's most-renowned designers and exciting, emerging talents.

Some of our favourites included shows from TRAVIS TADDEO, Axel Kohler, and Maison Matthew Gallagher, while sponsored booths in the tent's reception area offered enough informative, product information and activities to keep guests entertained between runway presentations.

THE BRUNETTES had most fun playing Barbie and Ken at Barbie's Dreamhouse, trying on virtual outfits with new technologies from Sony, and posing in the Air France photo booth. Free drinks from Peroni Italy and glacéau vitaminwater kept us hydrated and the conversations flowing as THE BRUNETTES mixed and mingled with designers Sunny Fong and Matt Robinson of Klaxon Howl, model Stacey McKenzie, Big Brother Canada's Gary Levy, and CBC News host Anne-Marie Mediwake, along with  fellow bloggers, industry professionals, and other fashion personalities.

R&B Star Style Exhibits: Singer/Producer Pharrell Williams Makes a Special Appearance at Yorkdale Shopping Centre

Hundreds of music fans and style setters crowded Holt Renfrew's renovated Yorkdale Shopping Centre location to catch a glimpse of famed musician, designer and urban fashion icon Pharell Williams.

The room full of fans observed in excitement as the star sat down for an interview and panel discussion with etalk host Tanya Kim. Williams greeted fans and posed for photographs before touching on his various creative experiences and inspirations. The famed producer described how his passion for music influences the designs for his own Billionaire Boys Club brand and stressed the importance of clothing that is both eye-catching and practical.

Celebrating 10 years of the premium menswear label, the BBC X Holt Renfrew event featured a colourful pop-up shop of the star's Billionaire Boys Club, BBC Black, Bee Line and Billionaire Girls Club collections as well as exclusive sweaters from his BBC X Holt Renfrew line of unisex casuals.

In case you missed the event, Pharrell's curated pop-up shop for Holt Renfrew will be on display at the retailer's Yorkdale location until October 23 and is also proud to carry his book, 'Pharrell: Places and Spaces I've Been'.

Red-Bottomed Shoe Showcases: The Christian Louboutin Exhibition Celebrates 20 Years of the Designer’s Fabulous Footwear

A temporarily blonder version of BRUNETTE John Ibbitson headed over to the Design Exchange earlier this week to get an up-close-and-personal tour of the museum’s Christian Louboutin Exhibition, which is currently on display now through the 15th of September.

A must for any shoeaholic, fashionista, or lover of excessively extravagant design, the Christian Louboutin exhibit celebrates 20 years of the designer’s work, life, and history in the world of high fashion, and puts a brilliantly curated selection of some of the designer’s most iconic, red-soled heels on display.

Visitors of the exhibit can expect to see footwear worn by top Hollywood actresses and pop divas, as well as pieces inspired by everything from world cultures to major fashion movements, and from ordinary objects to personal mementos and stories from Louboutin’s past.

There is even a velvet-curtained section of the retrospective that lets guests explore their naughty side with a voyeuristic look into some of the designer’s more risqué pieces and the creation process behind them. The exhibit also houses a wide selection of men’s shoes, an interactive hologram featuring Louboutin’s celebrity muse, burlesque performer Dita Von Teese, and a fairytale-like telling of the artist’s life presented in a short, animated film. So if you’re like THE BRUNETTES and prefer flamboyance over function when it comes to your footwear, then the Christian Louboutin Exhibition is not to be missed.
