Aleks Susak Spring/Summer 2015

Last Wednesday, THE BRUNETTES headed over to 99 Sudbury, one of Toronto’s hippest, studio, event venues in the city, to check out the runway debut of the new, Canadian, womenswear label Aleks Susak.

The Spring/Summer 2015 collection was presented to over 250 members of the industry, including members of the media, industry, celebrities, and THE BRUNETTES, of course.

Denim, leather, and silk textiles were used in contrast throughout the line to express femininity and strength, while original, hand-painted art—incorporated into many of the designs by Susak and her artist mother, Mila Susak—highlighted individuality.

Hayley Elsaesser Spring/Summer 2015

Presenting a heavenly and downright fun line of cosmically inspired pieces, the Hayley Elsaesser Spring/Summer 2015 collection had the typically expressionless faces of the World MasterCard Fashion Week audience all in smiles with its playful use of electric colours and interstellar prints.

Printed playsuits, sequined crop tops, and a Crayola-box pallet reinforced the notion of fashion as a tool of individuality and freedom of expression, while also reminding one not to take it too seriously, making the Hayley Elsaesser Spring/Summer 2015 collection both youthfully nostalgic and appropriately adult at the same time.

Earlier this evening THE BRUNETTES took a trip over to 263 Adelaide St. W. for a special collection preview of OBEY Clothing's Fall/Winter 2014 lineup. Featuring styles for both women and men, the upcoming collection from the label stayed true to its usual, streetwear aesthetic while also incorporating bolder fashion pieces.

As always, exciting, limited-edition collaborations with a diverse array of artists amp up the label's street cred, giving the OBEY Clothing Fall/Winter 2014 collection edge and a laid-back look that can stand on its own.

Sequined-Sartorial Elegance: THE BRUNETTES Attend the Andrew Majtenyi Pop-Up Shop and Drinks Reception

Champagne, sequins, and cake-pop sweets set the scene at the recent Andrew Majtenyi Pop-Up Shop event. The seasoned designer, who is best known for creating memorable pieces for celebrities such as Nicki Minaj and Leona Lewis among other cover stars, allowed invitees to shop a curated selection from his line months before the pieces were due to hit the market.

Having shown in London, Dubai, and Berlin, the British designer—and Toronto expat—made Canada  a home when he opened his first Toronto store. Earlier this season, THE BRUNETTES had the privilege of seeing Majtenyi's couture creations in person, with Jana even getting the chance to model one of his show-stopping pieces.

The memorable event showcased the designer's impeccable tailoring skills, along with his flair for the dramatic when it comes to creating a evening dress with presence. It's no wonder why Andrew Majtenyi's designs have also been featured as custom costumes created for The National Ballet of Canada. Whether it be sequin-stitched gowns or an elegant take on the little black dress, Andrew Majtenyi knows how to appeal to our glamour-loving sensibilities.
