#WMCFW Roundup: THE BRUNETTES Reflect on Their Favourite Trends from the Spring 2014 Shows

Sleek silhouettes and neutral hues ruled the runway during World MasterCard Fashion Week. While some designers opted for tropical prints and vivid pops of colour, the majority of presenters showcased pieces in a neutral palette of black, white, taupe and cool blue. 

Whether highlighting impeccable tailoring techniques or the season's athletic inspiration, veteran labels like Pink Tartan and Joe Fresh stayed true to their effortlessly sophisticated aesthetic while up-and-comers like TRAVIS TADDEO and Axel Kholer brought some youthful edge to the runway stage. 

Other notable presentations included a retro resort wear line from Maison Matthew Gallagher, a kaleidoscopic menswear and tech accessory collection from Bustle, and a line of sustainable pieces from Laura Siegel.

Marking the end of another successful style season, World MasterCard Fashion Week's Spring 2014 presentations are remarkable proof of Toronto's emerging and established designer talent.

THE BRUNETTES @ World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014

Through October 21 to October 26, 2013, THE BRUNETTES spent their days at the World MasterCard Fashion Week tent in David Pecaut Square, taking in six days of Spring/Summer 2014 shows and awe-inspiring, Canadian couture from some of the country's most-renowned designers and exciting, emerging talents.

Some of our favourites included shows from TRAVIS TADDEO, Axel Kohler, and Maison Matthew Gallagher, while sponsored booths in the tent's reception area offered enough informative, product information and activities to keep guests entertained between runway presentations. 

THE BRUNETTES had most fun playing Barbie and Ken at Barbie's Dreamhouse, trying on virtual outfits with new technologies from Sony, and posing in the Air France photo booth. Free drinks from Peroni Italy and glacéau vitaminwater kept us hydrated and the conversations flowing as THE BRUNETTES mixed and mingled with designers Sunny Fong and Matt Robinson of Klaxon Howl, model Stacey McKenzie, Big Brother Canada's Gary Levy, and CBC News host Anne-Marie Mediwake, along with  fellow bloggers, industry professionals, and other fashion personalities.

Travis Taddeo Spring 2013 @ World Mastercard Fashion Week

The Travis Taddeo Spring 2013 collection was showcased on the last day of Toronto's World Mastercard Fashion Week. The Montreal-based designer's showing featured a mix of women's and menswear looks that epitomized an air of edgy minimalism. Staying true to his bold yet simplistic aesthetic, the designer dressed female models in effortlessly wrapped maxi dresses while his male models donned leather and harness-inspired belt details. From monochromatic tones and subtle metallics to a hint of bold blues, the Travis Taddeo Spring 2013 collection was a risque favorite for THE BRUNETTES.

THE BRUNETTES @ World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Day 5

THE BRUNETTES started off day five of World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week with a little handshaking and business card swapping with other industry insiders at a speed-networking event, which was organized by Fashion Takes Action and FGI Toronto.

After learning about and making connections with several fascinating fashion entrepreneurs, THE BRUNETTES took in the day’s runway presentations. These included edgier shows from labels TRAVIS TADDEO and UNTTLD, a fairytale-like wedding dress showcase from designer Bruce Dang for Paraezo Couture, ‘Project Runway Canada’s’ winning designer Sunny Fong’s latest wares from his VAWK line, and more commercial shows from EXPRESS and Allistyle. Canadian supermodel Jessica Stam kicked off the EXPRESS show, while Whitney Thompson of ‘America’s Next Top Model’ fame opened for the Allistyle runway.

THE BRUNETTES talked fashion and parties with UNTTLD’s designer duo, José Manuel St-Jacques and Simon Bélanger, after their stunning Spring/Summer 2013 presentation and posed for a pic with Canada’s fashion authority, Jeanne Beker, after taking in the EXPRESS Spring/Summer 2013 closing show.

But, before the week could officially come to an end there was still the EXPRESS after party to attend. Highlights of the party included food and drink, mingling with models, EXPRESS clothing giveaways from a pop-up shop set up in the venue, and a rocking performance from Dragonette that had the whole room dancing until it was time to hit an offsite after-after party.
