THE BRUNETTES Attend Laura Siegel's Project Eleven27 Launch at Soho House Toronto

Always encouraging the public to think about where and how the clothing they shop for is made, designer Laura Siegel held an event on April 24, 2014 at Soho House Toronto to kick off the inception of her Project Eleven27 conscious-fashion cause.

Created to remind those of the many who lost their lives in the Bangladesh factory collapse, which manufactured garments for some of the industry's most recognizable, fast-fashion brands, Project Eleven27 commemorated the lives of the hundreds of workers involved in the tragedy.

Selected members of the media were invited to come out and show their support for the cause by purchasing one of 1,127 limited-edition Laura Siegel scarves (one scarf for every life lost), which were handwoven by local artisans in Kutch, India with ethical work practices like fair wages and safe workplace environments.

The scarves were crafted using recycled sarees as part of Siegel's commitment to the environment. Select pieces from her line were also up for grabs, with 40% of the event's sales being donated to Sreepur Village; a charitable organization that assists Bangladeshi mothers and children in need.

Presented on the one year remembrance of the Bangladesh factory tragedy, the Project Eleven27 launch, as well as many other of Laura Siegel's initiatives to promote an ethical fashion revolution, serves as an important reminder to  designers, retailers, and consumers that the tag sewn on the inside of a shirt tells us more about that garment than just how it needs to be cared for.

#WMCFW Roundup: THE BRUNETTES Reflect on Their Favourite Trends from the Spring 2014 Shows

Sleek silhouettes and neutral hues ruled the runway during World MasterCard Fashion Week. While some designers opted for tropical prints and vivid pops of colour, the majority of presenters showcased pieces in a neutral palette of black, white, taupe and cool blue.

Whether highlighting impeccable tailoring techniques or the season's athletic inspiration, veteran labels like Pink Tartan and Joe Fresh stayed true to their effortlessly sophisticated aesthetic while up-and-comers like TRAVIS TADDEO and Axel Kholer brought some youthful edge to the runway stage.

Other notable presentations included a retro resort wear line from Maison Matthew Gallagher, a kaleidoscopic menswear and tech accessory collection from Bustle, and a line of sustainable pieces from Laura Siegel.

Marking the end of another successful style season, World MasterCard Fashion Week's Spring 2014 presentations are remarkable proof of Toronto's emerging and established designer talent.

Culturally Infused Catwalks: The Laura Siegel Fall/Winter 2013 Collection is Worldly and Wearable

Showcased with a museum-like quality in the studio space at World MasterCard Fashion Week, the Laura Siegel Fall/Winter 2013 collection took to the podium with a nomadic vision of autumn wears. Earthy hues, rich textiles, headscarves, and long, unstructured cuts delighted a packed room of fashion followers with themes of cultural heritage and world travel. The Laura Siegel Fall/Winter 2013 range was not only one of the week’s most mature, but most reflective as well.
