Androgynously Chic Collections: THE BRUNETTES Attend the Devlyn Van Loon Spring/Summer 2015 Collection Debut

The always humble and generous designer, Thomas Bálint, hosted the Spring/Summer 2015 collection debut of fellow gal-pal designer, Devlyn van Loon, last month at his Queen West studio space in downtown Toronto.

Titled 'GLIMPSE', the womenswear line focused on edgy separates with dynamic cuts, modern silhouettes, and crisp tailoring in a range of darker hues. Bold blacks, fresh whites, and deep reds give this casual, springtime collection a more sophisticated, yet effortlessly simple, feel.

In construction and palette, the Devlyn Van Loon Spring/Summer 2015 line perfectly complemented the aesthetic of her designer host's label, which makes sense as she and Thomas Bálint have collaborated together on androgynous frocks in the past.

But, by showing only a select few menswear pieces from his own brand in a separate room at the back of his studio, Thomas Bálint made sure that guests knew that this evening was to showcase the talents of his respected protégé.

If you've never seen either of their work, or are just interested in how you can get your hands on some of it, both designer labels can be found at the Thomas Bálint Showroom on 960 Queen Street West in Toronto. For THE BRUNETTES, it was definitely worth the streetcar ride.

Supreme Streetwear Launches: THE BRUNETTES Attend the OBEY Clothing Fall/Winter 2014 Collection Preview

Earlier this evening THE BRUNETTES took a trip over to 263 Adelaide St. W. for a special collection preview of OBEY Clothing's Fall/Winter 2014 lineup. Featuring styles for both women and men, the upcoming collection from the label stayed true to its usual, streetwear aesthetic while also incorporating bolder fashion pieces.

Classic tailoring, daring prints, faux furs, and synthetic and genuine leathers are staples in the line. Fans of the brand will also be pleased with OBEY Clothing's new and retro interpretations of its most iconic graphics and designs. As always, exciting, limited-edition collaborations with a diverse array of artists amp up the label's street cred, giving the OBEY Clothing Fall/Winter 2014 collection edge and a laid-back look that can stand on its own.

California Denim Collections: The HUDSON JEANS Spring 2014 Preview Revives Vintage Designs

Californian denim label HUDSON JEANS took a trip to Toronto's ultra-chic Shangri-La Hotel to host a viewing of its Spring 2014 collection. THE BRUNETTES had the privilege of checking out the label's latest line of vintage-themed jeans that varied from flared, distressed, and embossed styles. Made for both men and women, the pieces embodied the brand's effortless, rocker aesthetic.

With the launch of its Zine's NO.1 issue, HUDSON had its guests tweeting #LETYOURSELFGO: a hashtag that aims to inspire one to live their dreams and to be real while looking their best.

After snacking on some delicious refreshments, THE BRUNETTES posed with HUDSON's in-house models and captured some of their favourite looks from the 70s-inspired collection. The dynamic collection featured unexpected elements like raw hemlines, athletic silhouettes, and tattooed textile prints that left us coveting more than one of the unique pairs.

Contemporary Canadiana Couture: Tuck Shop Trading Co. Makes Clothing for Both the City and the Cottage

Inspired by both cottage country and the big city, designer Lyndsay Borschke has created a warm and cozy collection of luxurious outerwear, contemporary casualwear, and must-have accessories under her newly established Tuck Shop Trading Co. and City of Neighbourhoods labels.

While the City of Neighbourhoods brand celebrates Borschke's patriotic love for all the hangouts that make Toronto such a happening place to live, Tuck Shop Trading Co. offers a laid-back, yet luxe, selection of cottage coats, recycled furs, and fine leather clutches that evoke a more rustic, charming, and nostalgic sense of Canadiana style.

Hip sweatshirts, toques, and tees all honouring Toronto's greatest postal codes shown in contrast—more like in compliment—to buffalo-checked wears with snowshoe insignias were just some of the pieces that we had the pleasure to try on for ourselves when THE BRUNETTES attended a private showing of Borschke's full collections at her Toronto home. Both brands seem to have a deep appreciation for Canadian heritage, tradition, and culture, which was not only reflected in Lyndsay Borschke's designs, but also in her home, her personal style, and ... her personal stories.
