Artistic Adult Collectibles: The Design Exchange’s ‘This Is Not A Toy’ Exhibit Will Appeal to Your Inner Child

Opening to the general public today through to the 19th of May, the ‘This Is Not A Toy’ exhibit is the latest art showcase from Toronto’s design museum, the Design Exchange. Curated by Sara Nickelson, John Wee Tom, and celebrity-guest curator Pharrell Williams, the exhibit displays adult collectibles and designer toys as artistic sculptures that comment on everything from pop culture to social issues.

Attending an advance, media preview and breakfast at the exhibit early yesterday morning, THE BRUNETTES enjoyed an exclusive sneak peek of the toy gallery’s private collections and funhouse-like surroundings. Familiar characters, celebrities, and original creations all presented in toy form inspired many at the launch to Instagram a pic of the toy that most appealed to their inner child, creating an air of playfulness that could be felt throughout the room.

Edgy Urbanite Accessories: The Stööki x Topman Geodesic Jewellery Collection is Geometry-Infused

Lifestyle brand Stööki recently joined forces with Topman for their first-ever, collaboration collection. The 11-piece jewellery line, entitled 'Geodesic', features 18-carat, gold-plated designs that explore a theme of illusion, symmetry and mathematics.

Inspired by complex geometries, the Stööki x Topman collection features layered metal forms that are showcased on varying pieces. The accessories range from heavy-statement rings to delicately detailed necklaces.

This covetable jewellery collection also aims to adorn and embellish everyday menswear by turning a simple, collared shirt into a luxe, streetwear garment. The label achieves this by styling Topman's clean-cut items with added button covers and collar tips. The gold accessories stand out against a monochromatic backdrop and instantly catch one's eye in this bold catalog.

The limited-edition line is only available in select Topman locations and online here. Prices for the collection range from the £20 to £60 mark.

Culturally Crafted Streetwear - The Rebel Yuths ORISHA Collection is Artfully Urban

Inspired by the African background of designer Damier Johnson, the Rebel Yuths 'ORISHA' collection combines artfully expressive textiles with the label's sculptural eyewear. This edgy line of streetwear is crafted with both an urban and high-fashion sensibility in mind and brings a cultural aesthetic to life.

Translated as 'Initiations', the latest menswear collection from Rebel Yuths explores traditional African beliefs in otherworldly forces. This clothing line focuses in detail on the ancient art of Voodoo in which Orishas represent the ruling powers of the universe.

Moreover, this visually striking collection is meant to also explore the African influence over Caribbean island cultures that see Voodoo as a daily ritual in life.
